Retiring Cave Creek

I am retiring Cave Creek Primitives for a while as I move on to other interests.  Thank you to all of my customers who have shown enthusiasm for my work through the years - you are the best!

Some or all of my designs may become available as patterns.  If you are interested in a specific pattern please contact me and I'll do my best to make them available.

You may contact me at cavecreekprimitives at earthlink dot net anytime. Thanks again! All the best.....

Etsy Break

I'm taking an Etsy break, working exclusively from my website and blog. I'm withdrawing from someone else controlling my shop. Etsy has been great, in spite of continuous strange actions - and I may even return to them at some point in the future.  But not today.

Primitive Cow Ornament

Had a lot of fun last fall making pig and horse ornaments, so of course it didn't stop there.  This fun little cow is only about 3.5 x 4 inches and has a jute twine hanger. Available from my website.

Primitive Thoughts and Thanks

The last two years have been an incredible journey for Cave Creek. What began as a desperate attempt to keep myself busy and make a little extra cash while marooned in Kentucky -  far from my family and beloved Gulf of Mexico - has turned into a full-time, sometimes hard-to-keep-up-with business.  I am so grateful to my customers, some of whom have waited weeks for their purchases to arrive.  Who knew so many people wanted a pig?

Several customers have requested custom items that have made me stretch and come up with new designs, or tweak existing ones.  Others have suggested quantities or combinations that made me sit back and say, "now why didn't I think of that?"  But I suppose that's all part of having a creative endeavor that keeps you busy 12-14 hours a day sometimes.

I have considered selling Cave Creek - all of my designs and my customer list - and that thought still surfaces.  I am, after all, supposed to be retired.  I'm in Florida now, and I'm supposed to be languishing on the beach, going out to lunch, and doing things that don't require my kitchen to be covered in paint, cinnamon, and coffee.  And perhaps someday soon I will close the shop and clean up the kitchen.

In the meantime...the piggies beckon.  The cows are sitting on the counter, awaiting color and eyes and noses.  New ideas pop into my brain at 3 in the morning.  There is cinnamon everywhere. When she sees me, the sales clerk at the fabric shop knows she will be cutting muslin.  It seems that my answer to "what are you doing?" never deviates from "working on primitives."  And my manicure...well, I don't have one.

But then I remember the times I had to go to work, to spend my day away from home doing something I disliked, and having other people tell me when I could eat or sit down for 15 minutes.  Now I can stuff while I watch a movie, sew all day if I want to, take a break or work late into the evening, and no one complains except me.  I can work overtime, then quit when I've had enough, hit the beach and watch the sunset. And although I'm sometimes surrounded by pigs, assorted strange people and small body parts...I give thanks every day for this mess I've created.  All in all, Life is good.

The Great Return - Take Two

I'm back to blogging.  I know, you are just SO excited!  After taking a few months..OK, almost two years off, while I contemplated Life and other things, moved from KY to sunny southwest Florida, basked in the sun for a while and adjusted to running Cave Creek from my kitchen table instead of my own separate studio building - I am ready to dive back into the blogging world.

I will confess right here and now that I'm not the world's best blogger..but I still don't care much for Facebook and still have no clue how to Twitter.  Blogging seems old-fashioned now by comparison, but I do so prefer this format over anything else out there.

This blog won't be just about Cave Creek Primitives (CCP).  You may find a host of other things thrown in here from time to time, but that's OK too because CCP is really just me anyway.  It will probably take me a few days to figure things out again and get up to speed, but it does feel good to be writing and blogging again.  Even if I'm just talking to myself.
